Some dogs are allergic to certain nutrients. Research shows that if dogs have a food allergy, in more than 8 out of 10 cases this is an oversensitivity to animal proteins such as beef, chicken or lamb. An animal that reacts to one type of protein does not necessarily have to be allergic to another species. It is therefore important to find out which meal suits your dog. A small percentage of allergic dogs react to proteins (gluten) in grains such as wheat or soy.
So far, there is no reliable blood test that can determine whether your dog has a food allergy and, if so, to which foods he is sensitive. The only reliable method is an elimination diet.
Energique Pure Duck is a hypoallergenic complete raw fresh meat meal that has been specially developed in collaboration with veterinarians. This meal contains duck meat as the sole animal protein source and only carbohydrates that are known to have a very low chance of hypersensitivity reactions, such as spinach, carrot, apple and chicory.
An elimination diet lasts a minimum of 6 weeks. During this period, you should give your dog NOTHING other than Energique Pure Duck and water. It is very important that you do not give your dog chew bones, treats, biscuits, table scraps, or kibble during this period. Also make sure that the dog does not eat anything during walks.
Because you should maintain the elimination diet for at least 6 weeks, it is good to know that Energique Pure Duck is a complete meal that contains all the nutrients your dog needs. If you only feed duck meat, your dog would not receive a complete meal.
