The DVD "A Killing Obsession" takes you into a dark psychological story. John Savage plays Albert, a man who, after a long sentence, ends up in one of the toughest psychiatric clinics. He murdered Annie's mother in cold blood, and that murder has cast a shadow over his entire existence. Annie, however, remains an obsession, and it only gets worse. Completely insane, Albert can only think of one thing: his little Annie. The director of the clinic, Dr. Sachs, desperately tries not to release Albert, but the state decides he has served his time, and Albert immediately goes in search of his Annie, now 32 years old.
What follows is a brutal quest: Albert visits all the Annies he can find in the phone book, and each time it turns out not to be his Annie. In those moments, he chooses to kill the innocent women he encounters. Only when he finally finds his real Annie, she too turns out to be an adult, independent woman, and his rage reaches its peak: he kills her and kidnaps her niece. The hunt continues, and the police are literally hot on his heels. What follows is a dangerous and intriguing psychological game between Albert on one hand and the police and Dr. Sachs on the other, where tension and manipulation alternate, and reality becomes increasingly fragile.
The film offers a compact, captivating viewing experience full of suspense, with a central role for John Savage and directed by Paul Leder. The story shows how an intense obsession blurs reality and how the conflict between compulsion and justice is played out in a confrontation that remains unpredictable until the very end.
